lfisk The black handle is press fitted to the shaft. The shaft on mine has a taper that mates with the chuck. There are two little roller bearings that spin freely between the two. The taper fit chuck is a bad design for a hand tool. Comes loose much too easily. Another commenter mention it was 3/8 x 24 threaded but the one they sent me isn't...
