    Having several DS1307 that run fast or slow by either seconds or minutes per day, this DS3231 RTC is surprising. Very accurate and doubles as a thermometer also. The EEPROM is a good addition too.

    Based on the DS3231 (SN or M) chip developed by Maxim in 2004, you receive a very accurate and temperature compensated x-tal oscillator for a low price. The accuracy is 2 ppm for the (SN) x-tal based micro device and 5 ppm for the MEMS (micro electro mechanical system) based clocks. Whilst I prefer the SN version, the MEMS appliance is said to be used in the automotive industry due to its shock resistance. Which the crystal tunig forks don't "like". With the I2C interface you can chain devices in parallel and save pins compared to an SPI based solution. An EEPROM and a battery allow you to sustain time keeping over external power loss. The Adafruit library forked from Jeelab is an excellent choice for the integration in micro-controller-units (MCU) such as Atmel (defunc. now Microchip) and Espressif based ESP32 or ESP8266 working horses. Walk past any other RTC, this is the real deal. There is a reason the design of these never changed much since 15 years of its invention! For extra convenience a square wave output of 1 clock tick per second is offered (1Hz) and a 32KHz (32768Hz standard clock freq.) signal directly off the x-tal. Happy coding!

    Tutto Ok niente da dire. Avevo già usato il DS3231 in altri progetti e si è dimostrato un RTC molto preciso e versatile. Compensazione della temperatura e memoria interna. Arriva con batteria CR2032 già installata!

    Bought to bring a RTC clock to my Raspberry PI B+. Time is synchronized by a GPS module (Neo 7N) and this RTC module can keep the time when there's no more source or when the Raspberry is rebooted. I didn't try to stop the RPI for a few days but after a 3 hours the time was still in the same second.

    This RTC is much more accurate than the standard The Arduino Due has an RTC built in, but when you reset the board it also resets the built in RTC, which can cause a lot of problems. I use this with my Arduino Due and I get very accurate time and have no worries about losing time when the board resets.
