Excellent design and fits the hand well.....blade looks like it is made from a carbon steel and should last however replacements are available if needed according to packaging so retain the packaging for reference when new blade needed. If you are handy enough then it should pose no difficulties in resharpening a worn circular blade to save buying a replacement I can understand the need for a safety guard but for those competent with such tools it can be annoying and unnecessary but it is what it is and as such it works well. I have used this on 1/4" chrome tanned leather hide and the blade cuts well without flex. The cut is sharp and accurate and the rake angle on the blade is sufficient not to get the edge bound up on a metal ruler while tracing a straight cut. Will be interested to see how long the edge stays keen
