I ordered this kit along with the HX108-2 red radio kit and have built both. I’d have to say I prefer the red radio kit over this one hands down. A couple features this kit has over the red radio is the fact it has a headphone jack and an LED to indicate when the radio is on. Other than that the red radio sounds far better tunes in more stations and the case feels like it’s better quality than this radio. No missing parts with this radio. Like the red radio the instructions for this one are in Chinese. Unfortunately no mention in the instructions on the IF frequency to align it to but it seemed close to 465 KC (same as the red radio) so I aligned the radio to that frequency. A couple of tips: Like an IC chip the audio transformer has a raised dot on one of its corners that indicates where it goes on the PCB. The LED gets soldered in from the back side of the PCB so it will show through the little window on the tuning dial that the radio is on. The Chinese characters for the IF and Oscillator transformers can be matched to the characters/number chart on the instructions for resistor colors. On my radio Red is T2 (Oscillator) Yellow is T3 White is T4 and Green is T5. The ferrite antenna feels cheaper than the red radio and the mount for the antenna clips to a shallow notch on the PCB not a very secure connection. My particular radio has a couple of issues specific to it. It appears the PCB wasn’t trimmed properly and actually had some of the component through holes cut off. I was still able to mount the components. And... My tuning capacitor has rust inside it and I believe it has a short in it below 700KC as the radio clicks and goes silent below those frequencies. I’ll probably need to replace the tuning capacitor to get it to work. So in summary if you’re considering these two 7 transistor radio kits my vote is go with the red one. Even if you wanted the headphone jack and indicator light they could be easily added to the red radio.
