As a USB port tester, this is excellent. It lights right up if the USB port has power. The multicolor LEDs are very impressive, and quite bright. If you really want to use this as a night light, it should be turned away from the sleeper so that light from LEDs is reflected from a wall. Pressing the small SPST switch to cycle though the LED light modes is intuitive and easy. It is a sturdy little USB dongle, and it appears to be fairly high quality. As a demo for how a small circuit is made on a PCB, it is a pretty good example. You can slide it under a USB 'microscope' and show students the various electronic components easily. I can use it to draw current from the USB, in series with a USB volt/amp meter and show how those small inline USB meters work as well.
