The product is small and quite light. It looks like a beta-type without regenerator. I tried to operate it with a candle. It works for a few minutes until the cold side gets too hot because of the lack of cooling fins. The engine stops with the lightest constraint on the flywheel. Then I operated it with the ethanol lamp : it revs a bit faster and gives a lot more torque. You can rub the flywheel without stalling the engine. When I stop the engine, I take care to let it cool down with the piston being at its lowest position. If I do not, the driving piston gets stuck in the cylinder, maybe because of different thermal expansion coefficients. The piston rod then gets out of the piston. The whole thing can be very easily disassembled : disconnect the displacer piston rod from the flywheel, unscrew the 2 bolts to free the elbow from its mount. Use a thin firm rubber stick to pull the glass piston out of the cylinder. Before assembling, I usually check the glass cylinder and its o-ring as well as the hot source glass dome and its o-ring. Check the alignment of the displacer piston rod and the flywheel before tightening the bolt. As far as far parts are concerned, it does not comply with the description. I did not receive any spare piston. However I got 2 glass domes and 2 o-rings. Be careful, the glass is very fragile, I already broke one :( I highly recommend it, this is a very nice object for people looking for fun science stuff, steampunk items or for petrolheads !

Great looking engine. Came with extra bottle and test tube. Works like a charm. You have to wait for about 3 minutes for it to really heat up. Flick it towards the flame end and you should get it to spin after a few cranks. Good science demo of Sterling engine.

Really good, Double boxed, with two glass tubes and O rings. There may be a subtle change from the early ones on the pictures. On the pictures it looks to have two tubes one inside of each other. Now it seems one tube with inner aluminum piston as per photo. Which will increase in wear resitance - so better design. I couldnt get to go with tea lite candle so tried isopropyl alcohol which seem to do the trick. The glass tube is held on by retaining screw clip which can be hand undone as per photo. I think it good.
