Although the scarf itself is very thin felt, the 3 x AA battery compartment closes firmly. There isn't a lot of warming wire in the scarf but with the electric heating element turned on, you do feel it if it is directly on your skin. If you put it over a shirt you won't feel any heat. Brand new AA rechargeables lasted about 3 hours of heat. I'd give this one 3 stars, as it would be nicer if the material was thicker, and also it would get another star if it heated up more.
