I am using esp8266 basic on them and it works like a charm. Note that I think it has 1 MByte flash, after flashing with esp8266 basic 512KB flash left. Reception/Transmition is very goodbetter than my good quality cell phone. 1. Very small, size is aproximatelysize of 1 Euro 2. Use ESP-07 specific pin configuration; a. GPIO 15 always tied to GND (normal operation and flashing modes) b. CH_PD always tied to Vcc (3.3V) (normal operation and flashing modes) c. Only for flashing connect GPIO0 to GND d. No need to connect RST pin in normal operation and flashing, you may keep it floating.

I've been using ESP8266 modules since 8 months. Awesome Wifi modules for my IoT projects. I was buying them from a local store (5 times expensive) I ordered these for test the quality of the modules. Didn't test them yet. It DOESN'T comes with "Rainsun" ceramic antenna, it has a no name antenna on it :/

This one is my favourite board - been trying few and 01 is good for its simplicity but if one wants almost no limit esp board - try this one. ESP-07 combined with NodeMCU firmware can give you platform to make any "technomagic" you like. Just keep voltage around 3,3-3,6V with stable power supply spike and overvoltage are really bad for this little buddy. You can easy run it mobile phone Li-ion battery or any other 3,7V with just small resistor to reduce voltage.

Arrived in ESD bag. Module has 8Mbit flash. (as received descember'15). Comes shipped with AT firmware, has all needed pins to flash whatever firmware is needed. Works well with Arduino IDE. Downside is the chipantenna is parallell with the external connector, and a small resistor or capacitor needs to be removed to improve signal when using external antenna. will buy D1 mini next time.
